DADS: DO YOU HAVE TIME?
Rev. DL Whitaker. Washington
Many thoughts come before me when I
think about Father's day. I did not have the privilege of a father-son
relationship, because my dad was taken from me when I was five years of
age. I often think about how it would
have been to play music with my dad, or just to rap with him.
Over the years, however, I have learned that
the closest relationship I can have, is with the
Heavenly father, who, though I cannot see him, never leaves me or forsakes me.
I believe with all my heart, that if you
fathers out there, have children, especially sons, you should give every effort
to have a close relationship with them. The reason so many kids get into
trouble is because they are longing for a relationship with you, and it is a
shame that we get too busy to realize that.
The Heavenly Father and His son had a great
and wonderful relationship, even after Jesus was sent to earth for you and me.
That’s why it hurt The Father so - to see His son fulfill the father's will by
going to the cross.
We only have our kids for a short time, and
our relationship with them will make a lasting imprint on their lives and will
teach them how to be good fathers. Granted, some kids don't give their
fathers time, that's just the way it is, but dads, start now, and let them know
you are there.
Sons, Daughters, love and adore your dads,
your moms too, they make sacrifices for you, that you don't even realize they
are making, or have made. Love them even through their mistakes, just as
Christ, who made no mistakes, loves you. You won't be sorry.
Happy Father's Day to all you dads.
