"SERMONS FROM THE HEART" - with Rev. David L Whittaker GIVING THANKS

GIVING THANKS

Rev DL Whittaker, Washington

We should all be thankful. If for nothing else, the fact that we live in such a wonderful country and world. This is the country and world God created, and we are here, because He ordained it so.

Let every thing that hath breath, praise the Lord!

In all things, give thanks, for this is the will of God concerning you.

Ø                         I thank God for loving me enough to sacrifice His Son for me.

Ø                         I thank God for the stormy times as well as the still times. Why? because He lets me know how special He is when storms come and before I know it, I am past that point, when sometimes, I didn't know when it happened. In the still times, He speaks to me, and His still small voice is so sweet, that the birds will hush their singing.  Yes, I believe even the birds of the air have direction from God.

Thanksgiving time is a special time, but we make such a big to do about it, that I wonder if we really know what it's all about.  We have been taught for years to celebrate by stuffing the bird, and then stuffing ourselves until we are most miserable. Some say, "I have nothing to be thankful about." But I find that hard to believe.  I have been through the toughest of times, but I always found something to be thankful for.

Oh, I think we God wants us to celebrate, but we need to keep it in perspective.  This year, whoever you are - If you are counted among the poor, be thankful, for if you are Christian, you are counted amongst the richest of mankind.  If you are rich, Take time to think other than, ‘Look how hard I have worked for all this’ and ‘I am deserving’ - and give thanks to God that He made it possible. Then help someone less fortunate than you, because some of them understand thankfulness more than you do. They don't have so much to take for granted.

You who have all your health, be thankful, for in a moment! Find someone who is not so healthy, and share some thankful moments with them. As you bless them, they will bless you, and together, give thanks with a grateful heart.

Happy Thanksgiving to all 0 every day of the year!

Dave.
